During the last week of term we took a day to reflect upon peace, peace within us, peace in our community and peace within the wider world. During the first session we reflected upon how we can create and maintain peace in our minds and bodies at the end of the reflection every student made a pledge to hang in our peace garden as a physical reminder of the peace they would like maintain within themselves. These pledges are all hung in hearts in our peace garden.
The second session looked at peace in our community, looking at peace in our country and the diversity of teachings from different faiths and cultures around peace that enrich our country. We combine our thoughts and reflections to create a Union Jack for our classrooms to remind us of the need for peace and diversity in our country.
The final session was extremely powerful with the students standing up in protest against different injustices in the world. The whole school walked out in a peaceful protest with placards and passionate speeches from representatives from each year group.
Following our retreat students gathered in their tutor groups for a peace picnic, sharing goodies with each other and spending time talking to their friends and tutor.
