On Thursday we visited St Catherine’s Day centre ran by Fr Hudson’s care. We were invited to represent the school as we have helped with charity events, we visited the centre to see how the money we have helped to raise is helping the residents there.
The day centre helps to care for people with a range of different disabilities and difficulties; providing activities and personal care.
We saw some of the rooms that have been refurbished to make them colourful and easy to use for the residents and staff, they have brought new furniture and equipment to help residents that are in wheelchairs to have a break from their wheelchair and feel more comfortable. They even have a special pool to help residents feel comfortable and to enjoy the bubbles. It was great to see the residents using these spaces and really enjoying themselves- they have lots of disco balls too!
We saw the plans for the other rooms which are very old and not suitable for the residents anymore, they have amazing plans but the work is slow because they are waiting on funding. They are also changing the garden so that the residents can use it as another space and to grow their own herbs and vegetables- this also needs lots of work and at the moment the residents can’t use this space at all!
