Welcome to the Business Studies Department

We would like to warmly welcome you to our departmental page and share some insights into the courses on offer within both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. We hope that you find the information outlined on our page useful and informative.

Homework

Key Stage 4 – this is set by the class teacher once a fortnight and will take place via Seneca predominantly. Homework should last for 1 hour a fortnight and will match the schedule set by the school.

Key Stage 5 – again this is set by the class teacher(s) and will equate to 5 hours per week. This will be a range of tasks including completing past exam questions and Seneca tasks.

All homework will be recorded for students to access online. If a student does have an issue with their homework they must inform their class teacher prior to the lesson.

For all courses on offer within the Business Studies department students will need access to black pen, pencils, ruler, rubber and a calculator.

Key Stage 4

Students are provided with key terms for each topic to help them understand the terminology used in class as well as to support revision.

In Year 11 students will be provided with a revision guide which they are expected to bring to every lesson.

Key Stage 5

Students are provided with revision materials in lesson but it is also advisable for students to purchase revision guide for A Level Business. For those students undertaking the Diploma in Financial Studies resources are provided to students by the exam board.

Department Praise and Recognition

In the Business Studies Department we use a variety of praise and recognition methods for our students. Inline with the whole school policy we award five ASPIRE points per lesson per class, along with termly recognition of students whose academic and progress is awarded within celebration assemblies.

Alongside this we send Praise postcards fortnightly per class with those students awarded also promoted through the schools social media channels.

Careers Opportunities in Business, Finance and Economics

After studying within the Business Studies department there are a number of routes our students can take whether into Apprenticeships, University, Higher level Apprenticeships and Degree Apprenticeships.

Over the past few years a number of our students have decided to follow a more vocational route looking a degree apprenticeships in accountancy and business management, as well as following a traditional pathway of applying to university to study a range of business pathways including: -
