GCSE & A-LEVEL RESULTS SUMMER 2023

In Summer 2023, CNCS achieved the highest ever results in GCSE Media Studies with 89% of students receiving a Grade 4 or above (20% higher than the national average), 85% of students receiving a Grade 5 or above (31% higher than the national average) and 25% of students receiving a Grade 7 or above (6.5% higher than the national average). We are extremely pleased with the progress that students' make at GCSE Media! 

A-Level Media Studies is an improving picture results wise with all students (100%) receiving an A*-E grade. CNCS prides itself on ensuring students leave our school community with a comprehensive knowledge of the world and around 20% of our A-Level students go on to study Media/Film/TV at a higher level. 

Homework

At KS4, homework is set fortnightly and is completed online. KS5 students are expected to complete five hours of study each week. Students are given tasks that will consolidate learning within lessons.

Equipment AND RESOURCES

At KS4, students will be given a folder to keep their work organised. At KS5, students are expected to provide their own lever arch folder, to ensure that all work is organised and sequential.

Careers In media Studies

Careers across the Curriculum Fortnight - December 2023

In the Careers across the Curriculum fortnight (December 4^th - December 15th), Year 10 Media Studies students were tasked to understand the skills that a qualification in Media Studies helps them to develop, such as research, knowledge of the wider world and analytical skills. Students then used a range of platforms to help them research the range of roles and careers that Media can open up to them. The students were shocked at the array of careers Media Studies offers and some are now considering a future career in Media! At CNCS, we endeavour to help our students with the future journey in every possible way to ensure they choose a career path suitable for them.

Behind the Headlines - Media Literacy Workshop from The Guardian Foundation

In April 2023, Year 12 Media Studies students were involved in a Media Literacy Ambassadors training workshop from The Guardian Newspaper Foundation. CNCS was one of two schools chosen in Coventry to receive this workshop. Students were taught how to spot fake news, understand the differences between misinformation and disinformation and are now fully qualified Media Literacy Ambassador – something amazing for their CVs and University applications. They will be going into Year 10 lessons to deliver sessions to our younger year groups about fake news and misinformation. A huge thank you to The Guardian Foundation for delivering such an important workshop to our students!
