The Business Department at SJHN equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand and engage with the dynamic world of business. We aim to enable every student to flourish as informed, enterprising and responsible individuals, capable of making thoughtful decisions in an ever-changing global economy. Inspired by our mission to form Christ-centred pilgrims of hope, we nurture questioning minds, encouraging students to explore how business can be a force for innovation, opportunity and positive change. Through real-world case studies and contemporary business issues, students develop a thirst for knowledge and the confidence to think critically, make informed decisions and understand the challenges and opportunities within global business.
We encourage students to develop a secure understanding of how businesses operate by exploring key functions including marketing, finance, human resources and operations. Through applying theory to authentic contexts, students analyse, evaluate and justify decisions using evidence, enabling them to flourish as reflective and analytical thinkers. Through exploring the responsibilities businesses have towards employees, consumers, communities and the environment, students cultivate kind hearts and a hunger for justice, recognising the positive impact ethical leadership can have on society. As they progress from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5, they deepen their understanding of business concepts while developing the knowledge, resilience and skills required for further study, employment and lifelong learning.
Students leave SJHN as knowledgeable, reflective and enterprising young people, who are equipped with the analytical, financial and decision-making skills needed for future study, employment and entrepreneurship which are grounded in Christian values of integrity, stewardship and service to others.
