Welcome to our Virtual Sixth Form Open Evening

While it is not possible for us to host our usual Open Evening for year 11 students and their parents at this time, we would like to reassure you that our Sixth Form admissions process will operate as usual, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming students into the Sixth Form in September 2022.

We are delighted to be able to welcome you to our Virtual Open Evening and hope that through the course of the evening we can provide you with a flavour of our Sixth Form. Please watch our Introduction to the School and Sixth form, where you will hear from our Senior Assistant Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form, Pastoral Co-ordinator and our Head Boy and Head Girl.  You are then invited to hear from a range of students who are currently studying at Cardinal Newman.

You can also view our online documentation (located at the bottom of this page) including: ‘Your Guide to Sixth Form’ which contains a useful section about ‘What to look for when choosing a Sixth Form’ along with ‘Why Students Choose Newman’.

Tonight is about informing your choices with regards to the next step you take. We are proud that our Sixth Form has a proven track record of success and has supported many students in preparing for the world beyond our walls.   Each year Cardinal Newman students have taken up places studying dentistry, medicine, law, engineering, primary teaching and adult nursing (to name only a few).  Students have also progressed to a wide range of degree apprenticeships.  Some have travelled as far as the USA, or as close as Birmingham, Warwick or Cambridge.

We understand that making the transition from school to Sixth Form can be quite a daunting prospect. There are lots of factors to think about. In the following short videos we highlight some of the key areas to consider to help you make the right decision for your future.

What are the next steps?

Over the next few weeks we have a series of planned activities including taster lessons, insight days and supra-curricular workshops.  These will help students to make informed subject choices.   Students will also have a ‘Getting to know you’ meeting with one of the Sixth Form Team.  Applications to transfer to the Sixth Form will open in December 2021.

If you have any questions about Sixth Form or are an external student and would like to make an application please email our Sixth Form Administrator Amanda Higgins: amanda.higgins@cncs.school
