Social time activities

At Cardinal Newman Catholic School, our core values of ASPIRE are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that education extends beyond the classroom, and that every student should have the opportunity to grow, explore, and excel through a vibrant range of extra-curricular and social time activities.

Our extensive programme of clubs, events, and competitions provides opportunities for students to:

  • Discover and develop new skills and talents

  • Build confidence, resilience, and teamwork

  • Form positive relationships with peers and staff

  • Experience success in a range of creative, academic, and sporting activities

  • Take pride in contributing to the wider Newman community

All students are encouraged to take part, regardless of age, ability, or experience. There is truly something for everyone — from creative media and coding to business, wellbeing, and sport.

Termly Club Timetables

Each half term, a new timetable of lunchtime and after-school clubs will be shared here.

Students can join as many clubs as they wish, and attendance will contribute to progress towards their Passport to Greatness — a whole-school initiative celebrating personal growth, leadership, and commitment to the Newman community.

Social Time Activities and Wellbeing Rooms

At CNCS, we value the importance of social time as a chance for students to unwind, connect, and take part in positive, inclusive activities across the school day.

Our Wellbeing Rooms offer a calm and welcoming space where students can enjoy:

  • 🎲 Ludo

  • ♟️ Chess

  • 🃏 Uno

  • 🎮 PlayStation 4 consoles – coming soon!

In addition, a variety of activities are available around the school during break and lunchtime, including:

  • 🏓 Table tennis

  • ⚽ Ball games on the courts

  • ⚙️ Table football

  • 🔵 Connect 4

  • 🧩 Jenga

These opportunities encourage students to relax, build friendships, and develop social skills in a supportive environment.

Inter-Tutor Competitions

Over the school year, students in Years 7–10 will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of Inter-Tutor Competitions, most of which will take place during lunchtimes.

Inter-Tutor is a league-based competition designed to encourage students to:

  • Positively represent their tutor group

  • Develop teamwork and communication skills

  • Demonstrate a range of abilities and talents across different events

Each half term will feature a new competition, with points awarded that contribute to an overall score at the end of the year — ultimately determining the Best Tutor Group at CNCS.

These friendly events promote collaboration, confidence, and school pride, giving every student a chance to shine.

Celebrating Success

Participation in clubs, leadership roles, and Inter-Tutor activities all contribute towards our ASPIRE Awards and Passport to Greatness, recognising students who show dedication, teamwork, and creativity.

These achievements are celebrated termly, highlighting the effort and excellence that define life at Newman.

Stay tuned for updates each half term — and don’t forget to check the noticeboards and student bulletin for upcoming opportunities!
