FAQs:

When is Transition Day?

Transition Day takes place on Wednesday 2nd July 2025.

How will my child get there?

Your child should NOT got to their primary school; they should make their own way to Cardinal Newman. Of course, you can walk them or drop them off!

What should they wear?

All children should wear their primary school uniform. We don't expect you to have purchased our uniform yet.

Can I come into school with them?

We kindly ask that parents/carers leave students at the Cinder Path, if arriving by foot, or in the main carpark, if they are being dropped off by vehicle. We request that, where possible, vehicles are not brought onto site. We are a very busy site and are currently undergoing a new build so space is limited. If dropping off, please remain in your vehicle.

What time should they arrive?

Your child should arrive to Cardinal Newman School at 8.50am.

They are worried about where to go- what should I tell them?

There will be lots of staff members at all gates. We will be directing students to the Main Playground and surrounding areas where they will sign in.

When will they find out their tutor group?

Upon sign in, students will be given a badge. This will have their name on, their primary school and their new Tutor Group. Students will meet in the Pope Francis Hall and be seated in Tutor Group order.

What will happen during the day?

Students will meet their new school Form Tutor, meet new friends in their Tutor Group and will meet lots of different teaching staff. They will get to know one another and will take part in a number of different activities throughout the day. They will visit some subject areas and will see our wonderful school!

What should they bring?

Students should bring themselves, plus a school bag containing: pencil case, drink and any packed lunch items they wish to eat during break times. Mobile phones are allowed however these MUST be turned off and in bags throughout the day, as per our whole school mobile phone policy.

Will they get a break?

Of course! We will provide a snack and a drink during break time. We will also provide a lunch for lunch time. These are free of charge. Please complete the Forms link to let us know of any dietary requirements. If your child is a little fussy, they are more than welcome to bring a packed lunch. They can still eat with their friends in our School Canteen.

What time will the day end?

The day will end at 2.20pm for all students. Please make sure you complete the Forms link to let us know how your child is getting home at the end of the day. We kindly ask that NO VEHICLES are on site at the end of the day as it gets extremely busy. The best option is to meet your child at the end of the Cinder Path; students will be walked down there by staff and dismissed accordingly. A reminder that these arrangements are different for the following schools:

  • Christ the King - students will be walked to Coundon Park (Main Car Park) - collection from 2.40pm approx
  • St.Elizabeth's - we will drop your child back off to St.Elizabeth's school for normal dismissal
